8 abnormalities in Nigeria

In Nigeria, awareness and knowledge of Mental Disorders is extremely low, making it difficult for people to access adequate and prompt medical attention. Factors such as lack of health facilities, inadequately skilled mental health practitioners and low socioeconomic status further the number of patients getting proper mental health care.

Mental health, as defined by WHO is “a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and is able to make a contribution to her or his community”. It includes how we feel about ourselves, how we feel about others and how capable we are of meeting the demands of life.

Mental Disorder on the other hand, according to WHO is “collectively all diagnosable mental disorders or health conditions that are characterised by alterations in thinking, mood or behavior associated with distress and/or impaired functioning”. In this article, we will look at the 8 common mental disorders affecting Nigerians.

1. Schizophrenia
It is the most severe form of functional mental illness affecting most Nigerians and is also found to be the most common mental disorder worldwide. It is commonly described as a severe, chronic and disabling mental disorder characterised by psychotic episodes with recurring functional periods of disordered thought process. It mainly affects perception and thinking; hence, gives rise to a spectrum of clinical scenarios. Common symptoms of schizophrenia include delusions, hallucinations, disturbance of thought, disorganised speech, difficulty in concentration and poor memory.

2. Anxiety Disorders
This is a heterogeneous group of disorders with abnormal fear and stress as the main underlying disorder. Anxiety is said to be abnormal/a mental disorder when symptoms interfere with the individual’s normal productive activities; furthermore, its harmful effects outweigh its benefits because fear and stress is necessary for human survival. An anxiety disorder involves an excessive or inappropriate state of arousal characterised by feelings of apprehension, uncertainty or fear. This Anxiety can be differentiated into Generalized Anxiety Disorders (GAD), Panic Disorder (PD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Phobic Disorders (including social anxiety disorder), Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and Acute stress disorder, with each of them having distinct clinical symptoms.

3. Personality Disorders
Personality disorders are defined by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) as “an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.” The beginning of these patterns of behavior can typically be traced back to late adolescence and the beginning of adulthood, and, in rare instances, childhood. This deviation from personality is severe enough to affect the interaction of the patient with his/herself and the community.

Examples of personality disorders are Paranoid personality disorder (excessive pervasive distrust and suspiciousness of others), Schizoid personality disorder (detachment from social relationships and a restricted range of expression of emotions) and Schizotypal personality disorder (acute discomfort with reduced capacity for close relationships). Others are Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, Antisocial, Histrionic (excessive emotionality and attention seeking), Narcissistic personality disorder (grandiosity in fantasy or behavior with need for admiration and lack of empathy), as well as Avoidant and Dependent personality disorders.

4. Premenstrual Tension
This is a collection of physical, psychological and emotional symptoms related to a woman’s menstrual cycle and should be severe enough to interfere with some aspects of life. 80% of women, at one time or another experience have some of these symptoms during their menstrual cycle; however, only 2-5% meets the criteria for premenstrual tension. These symptoms are different from the discomfort associated with menstruation. It is due to the changing level of sex steroids accompanying ovulation during the menstrual cycle. Common symptoms are irritability, emotional liability, headaches, anxiety, depression, weight gain, breast pain, syncope and paresthesia.

5. Postpartum Blues
It is a very common mental disorder, as it occurs in about 50- 85% of women. Symptoms typically peak at about 4 – 5 days post-delivery. It may last for a few hours to a few days, resolving spontaneously by 2 weeks after child birth. Symptoms include mood liability, tearfulness, anxiety and irritability. Symptoms do not interfere with the woman’s ability to function.

6. Postpartum Depression
Usually occurs within the 1st 2 – 3 weeks post-delivery, but may occur at any point after delivery. Milder depressive symptoms may have occurred during the pregnancy and are usually not observed by the patient, spouse or caregivers. Symptoms are similar to those of depression occurring at other times in a woman’s life. It affects 5 -25% of Nigerian women. Common symptoms include depressed mood, tearfulness, feelings of guilt, feelings of worthlessness or incompetence, fatigue, sleep disturbance, change in appetite, poor concentration and suicidal thoughts.

7. Postpartum Psychosis
This is the most severe form of postpartum psychiatric illness affecting Nigerian women after childbirth. It is a Psychiatric emergency that needs urgent treatment by a psychiatrist and occurs in 1-2% per 1000 Nigerian women after childbirth. Its onset is usually with 48-72 hours after delivery. The majority develops symptoms within the 1st 2/52 post-delivery; onset is usually sudden and it is characterised by severe aggressiveness, loud cry/shouts, suicidal attempts to self and the baby.

8. Sleep Disorders

This is a spectrum of disorders affecting an individual’s sleep. It can affect the quality, depth, pattern and rhythm of sleep. A bad night’s sleep could produce: irritability, low efficiency and productivity at work, difficulty in school work, whereas health and relationships also suffer. Typically, there is difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep. Narcolepsy, which is the irresistible attacks of refreshing sleep occurs daily, accompanied by episodes of brief loss of muscle tone (cataplexy), sleep-wake schedule disorder and other abnormalities that can occur during sleep.

Chris Watts Sentenced To Life In Prison For Murdering His Pregnant Wife, 2 Daughters Hayley Miller

A Frederick, Colorado, man who pleaded guilty to murdering his pregnant wife and two daughters in August has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Christopher Watts’ sentence was handed down Monday after his parents and the family of his slain wife Shanann Watts made emotional statements before the court.

“I could objectively say this is perhaps the most inhumane and vicious crime that I have handled out of the thousands of cases I have seen,” Judge Marcelo Kopcow told the court. “Nothing less than a maximum sentence would be appropriate.”

As part of a plea deal, Chris Watts pleaded guilty on Nov. 6 to three counts of murder for the deaths of his 34-year-old wife, who was 15 weeks’ pregnant, and their daughters Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3.

He also pleaded guilty to two counts of murdering a child, one count of unlawful termination of a pregnancy and three counts of tampering with a deceased human body. The plea deal saved him from facing the death penalty.

The court ordered Watts to serve consecutive life sentences in prison ― all without the chance of parole ― for each of the murder charges. He was also sentenced to 48 years for the killing of his unborn child and received additional 12-year sentences for tampering with the bodies of his wife and daughters.

Prosecutors said Watts strangled his wife and then smothered his daughters before dumping their bodies on an oil site where he used to work. The 33-year-old was having an affair, they said, and had been making plans for a new life when he decided to kill his family.

“If he was that happy and wanted a new start, get a divorce,” Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke said Monday in court. “You don’t annihilate your family and throw them away like garbage.

In searing remarks before the court, Shanann Watts’ parents and brother described the painful loss of their loved ones. They explained they were not seeking the death penalty against Chris Watts because they don’t believe anyone has the right to take life away from another person.

“I trusted you to take care of them, not kill them,” said Frank Rzucek, Shanann’s father. “And they also trusted you. … You heartless monster. You have to live with this vision every day of your life and I hope you see it every time you close your eyes at night.”
“You monster. You thought you would get away with this and I don’t know how. The cameras do not lie. You carried them out like trash,” the father of Shanann Watts tells Christopher Watts, who pleaded guilty to killing his wife and kids
Cindy and Ronnie Watts, Chris’ parents, were also permitted to address the court. They said they weren’t asking for leniency in their son’s sentencing, but said they love and forgive him.

Chris Watts, who declined to make a statement during the hearing, became visibly emotional during his parents’ comments.

“He is devastated by all of this,” Watts’ attorney told the court on his behalf. “He is sincerely sorry for all of this.”

Poverty can never be overcome right? It’s a problem that simply can’t be solved.

After all, Jesus said, “The poor you will ALWAYS have with you.”

It’s right there in Scripture. John chapter 12. Verse 8.

So don’t get too worried about tackling poverty and injustice sonny-boy. It’s a losing battle. Tone down your revolutionary rhetoric and give up the fight.

Perhaps like me, you have experienced that metaphorical pat on the head. This verse is often used as an attempt to take the wind out of all the rest of Jesus’ commands to work for justice and to love mercy.

Well, bollocks.

I reckon Jesus actually meant the OPPOSITE of what we usually take him to mean here. It seems to me that Jesus was actually advocating generosity and action to eradicate poverty, rather than hands-up-in-the-air, shoulder-shrugging apathy.

Here’s my reasoning.

You know how some catch-phrases are just so well known, that everyone knows the ending – you don’t even really need to say it?

“Sticks and stones.”

Everyone already knows the ending, “Sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me.” Just saying Sticks and Stones is enough for you to catch my drift.

It just so happens that in saying “The poor you will always have with you,” Jesus was quoting another well-known Biblical phrase – from a well-known passage of the Jewish Torah. Everyone hearing him back then would have caught his drift. Here’s the full original quote:

“If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be…For the poor you will always have with you in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’” (Deut 15:7-11)

So, reading Jesus’ words in their original context you can see that His words were meant to spur generosity towards the poor. “Open wide your hand!” The command to be open-handed towards the poor comes directly from Yahweh himself.

Not apathy and tight-fistedness as we use these words to mean today.

The next time someone says, “The poor you will always have with you…” Be sure to complete the sentence: “Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.”

The second thing to note about this story is that Jesus says these words to rebuke Judas who was scornful towards a woman for pouring out her perfume on Jesus:

He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it. (John 12:6)

So, when we use Jesus’ words to justify not caring about the poor, we are actually repeating the very sin of Judas himself, who was robbing the poor.

Of course, this posture of generosity and open-handedness lines up much more consistently with the rest of Jesus’ life and teachings, starting with the revolutionary song sung by Mary while Jesus was still in the womb:

“He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.” (Luke 1:53)

You can see Jesus fulfilling this prophecy in the feeding of the 5000. The same word from Mary’s Sing, “filled”, is found in John 6:12, where we hear that that motley crowd all ate and were “filled”.

"Here's a chocolate coin for you good sir. Eat and be filled!"

“Here’s a chocolate coin for you good sir. Eat and be filled!”

The need of 5000 hungry people was met in that place and time because one little boy was willing to be “open-handed” towards the poor and needy.

Later, after Jesus’ death, the early believers also took these teachings on open-handedness seriously:

And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were NO needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need. (Acts 4:34-35)

There were no needy persons among them! Poverty was eradicated in their midst. That was the natural outcome of taking Jesus’ teachings seriously.

Jesus’ upside-down Kingdom is coming. He calls us to be part of it. The poor are going to be lifted up. The hungry are going to be fed. Your call and my call is to be open-handed.

So what are you waiting for? Let’s get on with it!

Loneliness part 1

To be lonely is half good but looking at it in this sense of emotions or feelings; loneliness is evil, loneliness is full of temptation, one cannot stand to be lonely and not committed to sin or even fall into temptation through lust of the flesh.lon.jpg

God ascertained this in the book of Genesis 2. that “it is not good for man to be alone” sure needs the assistance of the opposite supporter, a partner. The book of Ecclesiastes 4:9a “Two are better than one”, by one individual, the space is full of stress, anxiety, sorrow, depression, sadness, and discomfort. the tendency of getting or growing older than your age is higher potent.

About Sex.

Masturbation reliefs from distress, from all round disturbance emotionally. jerking off restructures your emotions for a while and this is not all you need; sex between legit partners brings rebuilding of tissues and intimacy to both. Ecclesiastes 4:11 “Again if two lie together, then they have heat (sex, bedmatting in place) but how can one person be warm alone?

The question Solomon asked was too strong and very deep but that was in his generation where dildo is no in vague, spouses even replace matting to dildo. The use of dildo in the 20th and 21st Century has been replace by spouse and non-spouse.

Sex is not all about bed-meeting/matting making of sound, whether through BBC as a guy or Chubby lady or BBW or even slim and tiny lady such a sex is called Body Exercise which result to Heat.

Normal Sex is all about discussion about it, Romance, Orgasm, deep breathe from both, knowing about the body before going in deep down the honey pot. Once the man can do this the woman will say I have a satisfactory sex by my man (Not Husband).

If you are still single like me writing this, prepare for your marriage and stop disturbing other futuristic ladies in the corner. To be lonely is a curse Eccles. 4:10b, please loose from such a curse and be set free.

To the widow,  I wouldn’t advice you to many because of your children but if you feel like marrying please do get someone who will love you and love your children too not your money and body structures and sharps also to the widowers.

Note. You don’t make sex because of children. you do because of satisfactory, then your having children can come in.

if they fall, the one one will lift up his fellow. but woe to him that is alone when he falls, for he hath not another to help him up.

In this sense, loneliness is a curse, just pick up yourself and get marry to your compact friend for it is essential.

The Shepherd and the Hireling.

You don’t need an Hireling to mislead you but a good Shepherd. An Hireling is also a Master also a Shepherd but the difference is,

An Hireling will flee when there is storm and 🌊 waves in life

But a Shepherd will protect his sheep come rain come shine at all course. Even when there is strive, he prefers to die than a sheep to get missing or die.

There are difference in Shepherd and a good Shepherd.

There is a question that I will like you all to answer, which parent can die for his ward when he discovered that the child is a thief, or a prostitute, or even a failure. Please be sincere.

You can now see the influence of a Messiah in your life, how He died for a sinner like us, a thief, a prostitute, a murderer, an ungrateful and wicked being. You are an Hireling, our government is one, our President also, most Daddy’s and Mummy’s are part. But who can love you as the good Shepherd Jesus.

Response to the question earlier asked and you will use this morning to examine yourself.

Speak to your Bone

Ezekiel 37:1-14
The literal meaning of bone according to the dictionary, ” a rigid connective tissue that makes up the skeleton of vertebrates” from the definition I can draw out some words that will actually help in relating to the heading.
1. Rigid connective
2. Skeleton
3. Vertebrates

Rigid connective. What are those things in your life that seen to be rigid or problematic and connected to force both seen and not seen. The foundation of your life can devoid blessings coming to you. What are those forces in your foundation connected to you by power? All you can do is to denounced sure and you are set free.

Skeleton. Skeleton has no flesh, body, it is boney and dead. Skeleton has no breathe, no movement, no hope, and no future. What’s seem skeleton in you shall live and be fleshly; just speak life into it by faith. Is your business dead, is your family dead, is your future dead, just prophesy by faith and it will all come to life and live.

Vertebrates. A person without vertebrates is without dark bone and sure a person cannot stand firm nor stand right. When vertebrates becomes broken, to stand also will be faulty and the body will be paralysed.
John 6:63b says the words that I speak they are spirit and they are life. So speak life into your life and bone so that there will leaving things living in your life and ramifications.

Bone mean retrogression, barrenness, failure, sickness, diseases, infertility, stagnation, unemployment, lack of faith, death, inability to make decisions for the future, family troblue, dryness, dark cloud business, curses, sin. etc.

Bone became flesh
When the son of man was asked can these bones leave he responded by faith so because of that He instructed him to speak to the bones, so he obeyed and speak without questioning the spirit of God. In verses 7 and 8 something happened:

1. There was a noise. When God will rode you the people will make a noise not shout because there is difference between noise and shout. The enemy makes noise but the Victor’s makes shout and a shout of victory like the children of Israel who made a shout 7 times for 7 days and the walls of Jericho fell flat.

2. A shaking. A shaking of the ground, of the camp or hell where the devil taught he has finished the house of Israel was shaking and the glory that was grounded became noisy for a manifestation.

3. Immediately the bone came together. Every of your bone that is shattered shall be restored back in Jesus Christ Name. Amen.

4. The sinew and the flesh came up upon them. The veils and the joints came and discovered themselves and
6. Skin covered them above. The people became whole has usual those who were fat returned to their nature and those thin returned thin. So all that the devil and it’s agents hath taken away from you shall be restored in Jesus Christ Name.

I know you will like to ask where the flesh was and skin that came up and covered them? It is a mistery but when the bodies were laid to the ground, the ground took away the flesh and skin: the ground took away the glory and strength of those men but .by the word of God through the prophet of God, the ground brought forth the glory of these men and their flesh was returned and their skin came back. I prophesied unto you today every of your glory the grave hath swallow, today will be committed in Jesus Name. Amen.
After, he discovered that there no breathe in them, no life in their body they seen dead with good flesh and skin. Anyone who just have body but no engine the good Lord will embrass you with breathe of life today in Jesus name. The Lord instructed him to prophesy unto the wind according to the word of God so he did prophesy and called the 4 winds and said O breathe, breathe upon these slain that they may live and he did prophesied and breathe came into them and they lived and stood upon their feet and they made an exceeding great army.
My people, God created you great, your destiny is greater and your future he made the greatest. So, why are you not walking in the path of great ones? Why are you limited? Who said you can’t stand tall? Who said you can’t build tower or mansion? Who has killed your business and family growth? Who has destroy your relationship with God? Who took away your happiness and laced you up in a pole of stagnation? Who and who or where have you gone to? Or who spoke evil to your life? The scripture says woo to him who made evil decree. Isaiah 10:1.
Remember Jesus Christ is the ressurection and life. He is capable of bringing you back to life. He did for Lazarus, He himself did it. The grave cannot hold him, death cannot determine his life for him so you can not be an exemption. All you need to to is:
1. Come to him with your problems. Your rigid and complex troubles, he is able to save you. Matt 11:28

2. Ask him to assist you, Matt 7:7

3. Whatsoever you asked shall be given you Matt 7:8.

4. Confess him as Lord and Savior Rom. 10:9-10.

5. Confess you sins to him; mention all to Him. 1John 1:9

6. Pray the Holy Spirit to come. Acts 2:1-4.

And life hath come into your bone and the grave will relieve you your blessings and glory from the ground. Praise God.
